, you'd imagine, would be a pretty tough keyphrase to rank well for.
But you'd be wrong.
Can someone tell me how an SEO noob and lame blogger like me can get to the top of #1 of Google in less than two weeks for a keyphrase that no end of big agencies presumably target?
Check this out. I screen-grabbed the sucka just now. It's me searching for 'financial pr agencies' on Google.

How come this happened? WTF?[/caption]
Let's rewind a bit. Here's some background.
About two weeks ago, on December 30th, I wrote a blog post on
and the financial pr industry.
The keyphrase I targeted during that post was
, but then being a noob I worked out that that keyphrase was really too generic — or fat.
So I thought I'd focus it a bit more — and reasoned
would be a better keyphrase to target.
Because I was a bit bored over the Christmas period, I also started reading up a bit on SEO.
I devoured quite a lot of content that I found — for free — online. And also, crucially, I installed
into Wordpress.
How cool is Yoast? Chapeau to Joost de Valk, who has created something pretty spectacular I'd say.
Armed with Yoast, I wrote a post on a '
' that's free of all risk, i.e. my company, Just In Time PR. It featured a picture of Barry White for God's sake, and was fairly tongue in cheek.
10 days and a number of posts focusing on related keyphrases later and I'm sitting pretty at the top of Google's totem pole. And I'm an SEO moron.
WTF?
Can any SEOs please tell me how this would happen so quickly? I suspect it's that I am writing fresh and quite distinctive copy that Google likes the feel of - because it's not the same old, same old nonsense that traditional financial pr agencies regurgitate?
FYI: I wrote a post a week or so ago that got published on
, which got me an inbound link, so that may well have helped me out.
But other than that, I'm at a loss as to why I'm at the top of the tree. Any SEOs know? I'll give you some free PR if you tell me....
My instinct says that to stay at the top of the tree, you need to keep moving, i.e. blogging decent stuff related to this field. If you stop, you crash back down pretty quickly.
