I'd say I'm a typical small business owner.
I work my arse off, drink too much, am borderline bi-polar, and am always getting bollocked for being "preoccupied" when I'm spending time with the kids.
I'm also typical in that I'm not a (multi-)millionaire.
I earn more than the average person, yes, but I'm still skint all the time and up to my neck in debt.
It's a schizo, uncertain life, but one I wouldn't change for the world.
But there is something I
want to change.
As a small business owner, I'm offended by the media giving so many column inches to high-profile, or self-proclaimed entrepreneurs who misrepresent everything I'm about.
Have a
.
It's just one piece among many, but is easily one of the most narcissistic and unself-aware business articles I have ever had the misfortune to read.
It makes me embarrassed to be alive.
I don't know about you but I have nothing in common with these people.
Nor do I aspire to be anything like them.
I couldn't care less about their success stories and would rather see my business fail than follow their platitude-steeped advice.
They lead fairytale business lives, by which I mean lives that hardly any business owners I know can relate to, or would want to relate to.
You'd think the mainstream media would have more sense.
They're already on the back foot with the rise and rise of social.
And yet they continue to publish content that's an insult to the vast majority of 'average' UK business owners, and, I would argue, belittles their achievements.
